Getting Better at Style

Like anyone that takes their personal style very seriously, I run into lots of people complimenting my style. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it from time-to-time. It’s taken years of work, lots of money, and paying attention.

Newcomers to the style arena sometimes expect fast results. It doesn’t work that way. You don’t read a few GQ mags, buy their recommendations and all of a sudden become good at it. It really does take time to know your tastes, fits, and craft a wardrobe that works for you on a day-to-day basis.

I still don’t feel like an expert, and constantly try to evolve my style. I’m always looking at how others put their outfits together (both men and women) to gain new ideas and thoughts about style. It’s what made me more interested in sneakers, which I had written off for a long time. Now they’re working their way into my wardrobe rotation.

The best way to get better at dressing well is to keep at it. Don’t get content. Push yourself to try new styles to see what works. You will inevitably buy and wear some clothes that don’t work for you. But that’s an important part of the journey too, knowing what doesn’t work for you.

But blaze your own path, don’t get stuck on style rules, and eventually you’ll start getting clothing compliments and  questions from people around you. That’s when you know you’re on the right track.
